Algebraic Topology

August 5th - 10th, Oslo, Norway

The topic for the 2007 Abel Symposium was Algebraic Topology, with emphasis on the interaction between the themes:

  • Algebraic K-theory and motivic homotopy theory
  • Structured ring spectra and homotopical algebraic geometry
  • Elliptic objects and quantum field theory
The symposium took place at the University of Oslo. The organizing committee consisted of Eric Friedlander, Stefan Schwede and Graeme Segal, together with the local organizers Nils A. Baas, Bjørn Ian Dundas, Bjørn Jahren and John Rognes.

There were plenary lectures from Monday August 6th through Thursday August 9th, including survey lectures on the major recent advances in the three themes, together with more specialized lectures. All lectures took place in Auditorium 1 of Georg Sverdrups hus. There was a welcoming reception on Niels Henrik Abel's 205th birthday, Sunday August 5th, and a conference excursion and dinner on Tuesday August 7th. Friday August 10th is the departure day.

A quite detailed information booklet is now available. Here are some links to its main parts:
